"Like-Me" Simulation as an Effective and Cognitively Plausible Basis for Social Robotics

چکیده
We present a successful design approach for social robotics based on a computational cognitive architecture and mental simulation. We discuss an approach to a Theory of Mind known as a “like-me” simulation in which the agent uses its own knowledge and capabilities as a model of another agent to predict that agent’s actions. We present three examples of a “like-me” mental simulation in a social context implemented in the embodied version of the Adaptive Control of Thought-Rational (ACT-R) cognitive architecture, ACT-R/E (for ACT-R Embodied). Our examples show the efficacy of a simulation approach in modeling perspective taking (identifying another’s left or right hand), teamwork (simulating a teammate for better team performance), and dominant-submissive social behavior (primate social experiments). We conclude with a discussion of the cognitive plausibility of this approach and our conclusions.

Group-Based Transactive Memory to implement Computationally-Plausible Social Cognition in Agents
There is a need for cognitively bounded implementations of transactive memory for agents. To do this, we use schema theory and tiered social cognition to implement Mead’s Generalized Other (1925). We then compared our new implementation, Construct-ML, with a prior implementation of the same simulation, ConstructO. We were not able to replicate all of the patterns suggested by Construct-O’s resu...
متن کاملSolving Path Following Problem for Car-Like Robot in the Presence of Sliding Effect via LMI Formulation
One of the main problems of car-like robot is robust path following in the presence of sliding effect. To tackle this problem, a robust mix H2/H∞ static state feedback control method is selected. This method is the well-known linear robust controller which is robust against external disturbance as well as model uncertainty. In this paper, the path following problem is formulated as linear matri...
متن کاملPlanar Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Au Clusters in Pushing Process
Based on the fact the manipulation of fine nanoclusters calls for more precise modeling, the aim of this paper is to conduct an atomistic investigation for interaction analysis of particle-substrate system for pushing and positioning purposes. In the present research, 2D molecular dynamics simulations have been used to investigate such behaviors. Performing the planar simulations can provide a ...
متن کاملAn embodied model of infant gaze-following
We present an embodied model of gaze-following. The model learns how to follow another’s gaze by using cognitively plausible mechanisms. It matches a classic gazefollowing experiment (Corkum & Moore, 1998) and runs on an embodied robotic system.
